Essential Guide to Telecommunicatiions July 5, 2001 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
THis book was easy to follow, I was new to telecommunications three years ago. This book helped to shorten my learning curve. The author took highly technical information and put it in laymans term. I have recommended this book to every sales person and technical person in telecommunications that I meet. Within my company and in my networking.
the information is not derived from the author's expertise April 10, 2001 12 out of 13 found this review helpful
I wanted a book that would explain the basic concepts and show the progressive changes from the telephone to the present hardware, software and its influence .In nearly every sphere this book fell short. After much searching and a bit of luck, i did find :ANATOMY OF TELECOMMUNICATIONS by Tom Smith and ABC TeleTraing ,Inc. In less than 160 pages the author was able to do what this book and its many pages could not .
This book is bad for you February 11, 2001 17 out of 23 found this review helpful
This book is beyond bad; it is bad for you. This author neither understands the technology she is writing about nor the how to write about tecnology. The books is filled with misinformation, incorrect usage of terms and ambiguous statements. The book is, however, simple to read. The author really "dumbs down" the explanations. As a result, the book has received some positive ratings. But beware! Even the dumbed down explanations are frequently wrong. This book can do more damage than good. Don't read it.
This Book is OK if you are looking for a General Guide December 31, 2000 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
Is good for Marketing persons not engineers. If you are looking for telecom general concepts this book is the best. However if you have a solid Telecom background you will not find this book helpfull at all. It covers with simple concepts the evolution of telecom to this days.
Was there an editor? December 7, 2000 12 out of 21 found this review helpful
Have you and a few friends ever dropped a bunch of acid and then wrote a book on telecommunications? This book rambles and sometimes restates things almost verbatim within a few sentences. It dwells on minutia and then glosses over important topics. It also rambles and often restates things almost word for word in just a few sentences. There are better books on the subject and faster ways to get up to speed on the industry.
