3 out of 5 stars Just add Thesaurus   December 4, 2008
It took me many chapters to get past the horrific writing. I felt like the author had her thesaurus sitting open next to her the entire time she was writing this. So painful to read. But then she hooked me and I couldn't put it down. The writing improves in book 2, hope the trend continues...

5 out of 5 stars Twilight is BEST book I have read in years!!!   December 4, 2008
I could not put this book down. I was captivated by Edward, and addicted to finding out every detail about what was going to happen next. The mystery and true love was brilliantly written and weaved through the whole story. I am dying for Stephenie Meyer to finish writing "Midnight Sun" which is "twilight" from Edwards perspective. I think it will push this saga over the top and I will read this book and the other sequels over and over!!!

5 out of 5 stars FANTASTIC!!!! Great Story!!!   December 4, 2008
I was very impressed with this first book and loved every bit. I was shocked to learn that this was the authors first. WELL DONE!!! I have since read the rest of the series and I would recommend this to anybody interested in a unique and intricate story. The bonds of the characters were so strong. Definitely a positive review.

I am a 39 year old female with a 14 year old daughter who is into reading these types of books. I had always favored the romance novels. I read what my children read and I was impressed. I found a new genre. THANKS!!!

5 out of 5 stars amazing..   December 4, 2008
I walked by this book numerous times at Target..and stared at it longingly..but it was $17 that I just did not have. I would pick it up and sift through the pages in despair. =) I'm being a bit silly, but anyways, the point is that I wanted this book SO BAD!! Then I heard that they were comming out with a movie so I made a deal with myself, "If you like the movie, then you can spare the money and buy all 4 of the books." Well I saw the movie on Saturday and obviously I liked it because less than a week later I am here writing a review for the first book. I am so glad I spent the money. I have grown so close to the characters after only 498 pages. I wasn't ready for it to be over. (I might just be in love with Edward Cullen..who isn't even real but whatever.) It was amazing..with intermitten bursts of humor and intensity. I am so glad I still have 3 more to read!

3 out of 5 stars A guilty pleasure, maybe?   December 4, 2008
I received this book from a friend - who is an avid fan of the series - so I was compelled to read it. I found myself stopping countless times after reading a line and thinking: "Didn't I just read that word/description twice before?" or "Yeah, like that'll happen!" I also found Edward's alternating mood swings very implausible, which seemed to detract me from immersing myself within the book, as did many other impeding aspects of the book did. Previously being a Harry Potter reader - not that I'm not one anymore - I found it very surprising that the Twilight Saga was compared to the Harry Potter Series. I feel that Rowling's work surpasses Meyer's easily, because of the simple fact that her writing has no traces of author intrusion or interference, when reading one of her books you are easily submerged within the character's feelings and emotions. To be completely honest, I think this series is very over-hyped because the general public are desperate for a new phenomenon to grasp, one like it's predecessor, Harry Potter. My long rant may show signs of me being an overzealous HP enthusiast - which I don't deny - but nevertheless, I would feel the same about this book wether HP existed or not. That said, I am still a 16 year old, and I can't say that reading this book wasn't a guilty pleasure.
