1 out of 5 stars Doesn't work well with other brand Wireless-N access points   November 28, 2008
Install

Very simple. CD installs the regular Linksys Wireless Wizard application. I have a Linksys Wireless-G PC Card installed on the same laptop, so I removed the card. After Install I now have 2 wireless wizards, I guess that's OK.

Issues

After rebooting I connect at 160Mbps to my NETGEAR Wireless-N Dual-Band AP, but I am unable to obtain an IP Address. I reboot again, this time connect at 1Mbps, and get an IP. Continued reboots don't change the connect speed.

2nd Floor Office Testing

While showing me connected at 1Mbps, My performance test app is showing 6.4Mbps. Something must be wrong with the drivers or the card.

I checked the Linksys website for updates, and I learn that I already have the most recent driver, and it was last updated 9/2007. That's not a good sign!

I can't recommend this adapter to people that don't own the matching Linksys Access point.

1 out of 5 stars Nothing but trouble   November 18, 2008
Tried installing as mentioned in other reviews--didn't matter. Internet speed SHOWS it's fast but the response is very, very slow.

Put older Linksys WPC100 card back in and connection works just fine. (Yes, I removed all the WPC100 software and rebooted before installing the WPC600).

I'm taking the WPC600N back. Too much hassle. Never buying Linksys again. (The WPC100's program causes memory crashes at shutdown. Lots on the internet about this. Linksys' programs stink.)

4 out of 5 stars good choice   November 17, 2008
i was looking to get better performance in terms of the range. it's a good choice for a wireless-N card.

5 out of 5 stars Works great if you don't use the included software   September 1, 2008

This is a review based upon using this wireless card with a laptop running Windows XP and a Netgear dual band Wireless-N router with 8 internal antennas.

Bottom line up front: this card works great if you do not use the software that came with the device

At first, my experience with this card was very similar to the other reviews. The connection was extremely slow and I could not get it to switch from wireless-A to wireless-N. I could only use A on the 5.0 GHz frequency or G on the 2.4 GHz frequency. I tried restarting my computer, trying with and without my firewall and security software, restarted my router, et cetera, and the connection remained poor. However, once I turned off the wireless network monitor (the green icon that appears in the lower right after you install the driver) and simply connected through the Windows "choose a wireless connection" screen, my connection was very fast, reliable, and otherwise just like being connected with an Ethernet cable. Since then, I have had no problems and I no longer use the wireless network monitor that came on the installation CD. I am not recommending that you disregard the installation instructions, but I do recommend not using the wireless network monitor afterward. Just connect via Windows and the connection is great.

As I type this, there are two walls between my router and the wireless adapter and I still have signal strength of 4 bars (out of 5) and speed of 162 Mbps. Nearer to the router, I routinely get 5 bars and 297 Mbps.

Before trying this card, I used a USB 2.0 dual band wireless-N adapter and was very disappointed (and returned it after one day). The connection was fast but unreliable with the USB adapter (it would just disconnect for no apparent reason, even when I was only 6 feet from the router). This Linksys notebook card is a significant improvement and my USB port is now available once again.
