Product Description Simplify your network installations with power and data on one cable! The Linksys Power Over Ethernet Adapter Kit lets you put your access points almost anywhere, by removing the requirement of nearby power outlets. By using the existing Category 5 Ethernet cabling to deliver power to any standard 5 volt access point or other network device, you save the time, hassle, and expense of running AC power to the access point's installation location. The best position for a wireless access point is usually on the ceiling, in the center of the area to be covered. Second best would be high on a nearby wall. Unfortunately, there's usually no easily accessible AC power plugs available in these locations. With the Power Over Ethernet Adapter Kit, installing the access point in these preferred spots becomes far less trouble. The Power Over Ethernet Adapter Kit is a two piece set. The "Injector" sends both power and data over one Category 5 cable to your access point, wireless router or bridge. Then the tiny "Splitter", placed at the remote location, separates the network data and DC power back into two cables, and delivers them to the access point. The Injector can also be used by itself with POE-enabled network devices that accept 48 volts directly on a POE port. This product is a 12 Volt Power Over Ethernet adapter kit.

Watch Out! - Won't work with autosensing, unmanaged gigabit devices (switches) January 5, 2009 I bought this unit and struggled for weeks to get it to work right ... turns out, the injector gets confused if you connect it to an auto-sensing Gigabit device (I tried both a Linksys RVS4000 10/100/1000 router, and a Linksys 10/100/1000 switch). If you connect it to a 10/100 device, or if you set the port of a 10/100/1000 router to be restricted to 10/100 speed, it seems to work fine - but it won't work with a 10/100/1000 unmanaged switch for example.
Delivers PoE but you lose gigabit speed November 15, 2008 This product delivers Power over Ethernet. However, you will lose the ability to transfer at wired gigabit speed. My other switch has a dual color light to indicate whether the connected device is running at gigabit or not. Before, the switch lit up with a green light to indicate gigabit speed. After PoE was installed, the other switch shows as amber, indicating 100 mbps speed, not 1000 mbps.
Not a problem for surfing the internet, but if you are streaming media through your house, you'll lament the drop from 1000 to 100 mbps. Hopefully, an updated model will come out that preserves the gigabit speed.
works as expected May 8, 2008 If you want to put your linksys router in a location that doesn't have a nearby power outlet then this is the product for you. In our 50+ year old house it's notoriously difficult to get stable wifi unless the router is carefully positioned. And of course the ideal position doesn't have a power outlet anywhere near it. It's easy enough to run CAT5 cabling, but not so easy to properly wire up electricity. So by using this kit it's possible to power the router from another location.
Security Cameras October 15, 2007 This product successfully powered my Panasonic KX HCM110a cameras that I was installing for survelliance. I had purchased two PowerDsine 12V Active splitters for this same purpose, but they failed. The product is a bit pricey, but it gets the job done.
A little pricey but it works great August 23, 2007 My wireless access point is mounted high up on a wall. Although running a cat5 cable to it is easy getting power to it was a bit tougher. With this I didn't need to run power to it. In addition I now have it plugged into a UPS sitting on the floor with my router so it stays up during power blips. I would give it a 5 star rating except for that fact that it seems a little high priced.
