5 out of 5 stars Excellent set of ears!   November 21, 2008
Before purchasing this set of headphones, I was always reluctant to spend much on headphones, thinking they were all just the same. However, these, I have to admit, are pretty nice! So, here's my take on them so far:

Pros:
1. Compact! These are great for traveling, and fold up nicely to fit in the included carrying bag. Much more convenient than my old headphones that didn't fold.

2. Quality construction. I like how these are made. They're pretty solid, nothing fancy, and look durable. The only downside I noticed, which another reviewer I noticed pointed out, is that there's the exposed wires near each ear which could be damaged if you're not relatively careful. I also like the long, coiled cord. It expands for great length, but shrinks back up to help keep it out of the way when you don't need an insanely long cord. The connector also looks to be very solid.

3. Great sound! These took a little time to get used to, after using poor-quality cans for a long time. I had earbuds and some cheapie circumaural headphones, and these are definintely much better at providing clear sound than any set I've had in the past. They're good at blocking out most sounds. And are great, even at louder volumes. As far as bass is concerned, I have no problems recommending these to anyone who loves their bass. Mine, even without the "burn-in" time, provide sweet bass response. (And I love plenty of bass.)

4. Comfortable. I have no problems wearing these for longer periods of time. They're not tight, and have ample padding.

Cons:
1. The exposed wire near each can. It could be damaged fairly easily. But if you're relatively careful, you should be fine.

2. Coiled cord. I know not everyone will like the coiled cord. So this could go either way. If a coiled cord bothers you, maybe look for something with a straight cord.

So, that's it! Lots of positive things that I love about these. They're great all-around cans. I use them for music and gaming. I'm happy I got them, and I'm sure you will be, too!

5 out of 5 stars Saved a lot of money   November 16, 2008
I highly recommend these baby's! Some reviews said they were tight and had to change ear pads...huh? I've got a big ol' head and they were fine from day one, very comfy. As far as sound goes they are phenomenal. I've heard some very high end audiophile speakers and headphones in my day, as stereo is my hobby, and these Sony's are equal to or better than most. Clean, clear, crisp, good bottom end, no sharp and screechy treble, no muddy mid-range, just what's in the music and nothing more. I've got mine dedicated to a Denon DCD 860, a 1972 GREAT cd player and they sound amazing. For the price I'd say the sound quality is right up there with headphones costing in the hundreds!!!

4 out of 5 stars Very Decent Headphones   November 11, 2008
The Sony MDR-V6 produces superb sound across the entire spectrum. Unlike some of the other reviewers, I do not find the lows stronger or weaker than the mid-range and highs. The set is comfortable, and the cups insulates noises well (not to compare to noise-canceling headphones). All that said, I still feel that the set should cost at $15-$20 less.

5 out of 5 stars Break in necessary....   November 10, 2008
After a lot of cross referencing between the V6 and V600 headphones I decided to go with the V6s. At first listen I was very disappointed in my decision and even considered sending the headphones back. They were extremely "tinny" sounding and had almost no bass response whatsoever. For lack of having any other headphone option I continued to use them to play video games on my computer (straight jacked into the sound card)for about a week... then on a whim one night plugged them into my mp3 player which 1.) has higher fidelity music on it and 2.) had an EQ already setup (i later figured out id had the default computer set to flat)... my mouth dropped open in the first 5 seconds of "The Pot" by Tool.

I literally got chills as the bass came in and I had to sit down for the rest of the song. I have never heard my music sound like these headphones make them sound before. Another week of playing on my mp3 player and they sounded orders of magnitude better when jacked into my computer... then i checked the EQ for the onboard sound and set it up like the mp3 player - bliss.

These are the best Sony headphones I've ever owned ... and that's saying a lot as I've had at least one representative from every style in price ranges from $20 to $150.

The headband is comfortable on my size 7 3/4 noggin and I've had no trouble wearing them for 4+ hours at a time (in a warm room they do make your head get a little hot though). They sit lightly on your head and exert a small amount of pressure around your ears.

All in all I join everyone else in highly recommending these cans - especially for the price at Amazon. They sound twice as good, cost about the same, are less conspicuous, and fold unlike then my old Sony XD-400s (one of the kittens ate the cord)... I'll definitely be rebuying another set if the need ever arises.

5 out of 5 stars Best Headphones I have owned   October 31, 2008
I got these from Amazon.com (though electronic express). the sound is crisp and clear and the cord is long enough to reach across my room

I watch 1-2 hours of TV on a regular basis and the phones fit like a glove ( that is to say they feel great)

When I listen to music I can often pick out parts of a song that I had overlooked before. I have used these phones with both a Rotel Receiver and my computer (creative soundblaster 2 zs platinum sound card ) In both cases the sound comes in clear.

If I ever need another pair of pones I will turn to these first. so far they look as they will last, solid construction!
