Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
Exciting and convenient, the RM-VL600 controls up to 8 components, and with the one-touch system control, synchronizing operational status on remote and alternate components is done with ease. Also a Learning function for programming from other remotes. Being in the driver's seat of your living room sofa is made easy with the RM-VL600 remote control from Sony.

5 out of 5 stars Can't be beat for the price!   December 3, 2008
I bought this for an upgraded system in my office, Samsung LCD and Bluray, Motorola Comcast Cable, and Niro Sound System. I have more expensive universal remotes elsewhere in the house, and this remote actually exceeded those in being able to learn all the commands for the Niro sound system which the URC remote could not. Yes, there are some budgetary designs, lack of backlight, somewhat limited buttons, etc. I was however, able to get all of the functions I needed programmed for all devices on the remote, and yes some are programmed onto buttons with different labels, but since I tend to work my remotes by feel ultimately, once the system is learned it's just fine. Keep in mind the price versus other remotes with similar functionality, which typically cost 4 or more times. Others have complained that it is difficult to learn commands. I didn't find it any different than more expensive remotes and frankly once it's done right, it doesn't need to be done again. Highly recommended.

5 out of 5 stars Great replacement remote   December 3, 2008
Hi I purchased this because the remote for my Viewsonic 27" computer monitor slash tv stopped working. I had to practically force my thumb to the bottom of the remote to get it to work and even after a while that didnt work anymore so when I gave the tv to my neighbor I purchased this remote for her which also controls the cable box its great! It is also lightweight, very good looking, and easy to press buttons.

5 out of 5 stars This remote controls everything!   November 29, 2008
I have used this remote for over six months. Every component I have tried has worked. From an xbox 360, to components that are over 10 years old. If you have the original remote, it will work. I had bought a Samsung hdtv tuner off of Ebay with no remote, hoping the Sony would work with that. The code that Sony supplied did not work. I had to buy the original remote, and program it manually, the Sony remote now works with that as well. It is large and has big buttons, but I have big hands so no problem. My wife, who has small hands, has never complained about the size of the remote. I buy chairs for comfort, not remotes! The only complaint I have is the component select buttons are lighted, but the other buttons are not lighted which is weird. For the money this is one of my favorite universals, and I have tried a bunch. I even have an expensive Kameleon remote, and I prefer the Sony hands down! I would buy this remote again in a heart beat!

2 out of 5 stars Not as smart as I'd hoped   November 11, 2008

I know this unit is well regarded but I found it did not live up to expectations. I could not get the unit to operate my Sony CD-Player at all, and the so-called learning function was also hit or miss for me with several of my components. With my Sony amp for example, it did most of the functions, but mysteriously, there were a few key functions it would not do and would not 'learn'. All of my components are major brands, many Sony, and all are pretty recently built, most less than 2 years old. I was disappointed and returned the item.

5 out of 5 stars Best Universal remote known to MAN or WOMAN   November 2, 2008

when I ordered this I accidentally ordered two.. well no big deal I'll just return the second one.. after setting up the first one there is NO way the second one is going back!!
I have a off brand DVD VCR combo recorder that wasn't listed in the book of codes..
guess what NO problem!!
set this remote to learn the other remote function.. hold that button down on the devices remote and bing!! done.. this remote now preforms that function on that device...
PLUS!!!
you can program SEVERAL devices under one device settings..
so the TV setting can control the TV
the DVD setting can control the DVD
but the AUX setting can be trained to control the TV your sound system and the cable box ALL under one device!!
you just have to remember what button does what
on mine under AUX I programed the volume controls to work the volume on my home theater system, the channel buttons control the channel on the cable box, and the STOP / PLAY buttons work on the DVD player!!
this is by far the easiest universal remote I have ever owned or had the PLEASURE of programing!!
