| Editorial Reviews:
Product Description Largely as a result of the faltering economy, many chief information officers (CIOs) are losing sleep, wondering what 2002 will bring. The economy has brought shrinking IT budgets. Fallout from the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks has spurred concerns about security, disaster planning and collaborative computing. CIOs are also challenged by the ongoing need for business process reengineering, the increasing costs of software as a percentage of the overall IT budget and, in some cases, a continuing lack of credibility related to inaccurate perceptions about the role of IT in the enterprise. However, IT executives are becoming increasingly well informed about business issues. Many are former business leaders, and they understand the pros and cons of current trends such as outsourcing, using multiple service providers and the effects of the increasing mobility of the work force, for example. What follows is the feedback Giga received from CIOs they interviewed. These CIO worries for 2002 are as follows: 1. Cutting/stabilizing costs 2. Aligning IT investments with business direction 3. Building strong IT service delivery 4. Selective outsourcing, offshore outsourcing and balancing of external service providers 5. Management of internal and external resources 6. Security, including disaster recovery and business resumption planning 7. Enterprise architecture 8. Systems integration (Web-based systems, legacy systems, B2B systems, etc.) 9. Building credibility for the value of IT?s services 10. Prioritizing IT investments and formalizing the planning process
