Product Description Existing and aspiring Windows 2000 certified professional will quickly seek to get their W2K credentials in order to be technically current and capable of supporting Windows 2000 implementations. Windows 2000 is substantially different from Windows NT 4.0 so even the most experienced network professionals will need to be updated and certified. Covers all of Windows 2000 Networking services, including providing Internet Protocol (IP) networking infrastructure (TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS), supporting remote users, providing IP routing and secure communications, and managing access to Internet. CD-ROM includes TEST YOURSELF Personal Testing Center and video clips of the world's premiere classroom instructors teaching the most critical and complex topics. 60 minutes of audio tape reviews kew exam topics essential to passing the exam.
Amazon.com Review MCSE: Windows 2000 Directory Services Administration Study Guide is as sizable as its title would indicate, providing its readers with ammunition for use in both real life and on the Active Directory exam (70-217). As is typical of technologies for which certification tests exist, the actual skills you need to set up and work with Active Directory are related to (but not the same as) the knowledge you need to pass the Microsoft certification exam on the subject. The authoring team on this book has done a good job of covering all the subjects covered in the Microsoft outline of the Active Directory test's objectives. They've also backed their written work with a good-quality assessment test (with answers) on CD-ROM, suitable for use when certification candidates don't want to tote the book. The authors' approach to their subject is typical of books in this series. In essence, it's complete documentation of the Active Directory subsystem of Windows 2000, just as you would get in a reference book on that subject. In addition, there are exercises that readers can follow to build their experience with aspects of Active Directory. Chapters wrap up with questions (for which detailed answers follow a few pages later) and lab processes to try. --David Wall Topics covered: The material you have to understand in order to pass the Active Directory exam (70-217) on your way to a Microsoft professional certification. Chapters address installation and configuration, implementation of the Domain Name Service (DNS), user and group management, remote installation, and troubleshooting.

good study giude October 4, 2005 This book contains all that is neccessary for Exam 70-217. I recomend it any time for anyone looking forward for success
Too many pages February 18, 2003 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The book content is good that it disect topics into great details. One weakness though is that it has too many pages that sometimes you'll get lost from the main topic. Good as reference material for real world application.
Good intro but needs more detail October 11, 2002 This book provides a good introduction to Active Directory for someone who is new to Windows 2000 server. The quality of writing is much better than what's found in most study guides. For the most part, what it covers is covered in a clear and understandable manner, but there are big gaps in what's covered. Also, I found a couple of really big factual errors. So I'd say, if you are new to Active directory, get this book, and read it quickly once over to get the concepts, but then put it down and find something else to really dig into the details of AD - Something such as the Distributed Systems Guide from the resource kit. One other thing, the binding on my copy broke and now the book is physically falling apart. And I didn't even use it very heavily.
You've got to be kidding!!!! October 7, 2002 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this book based on the reviews and I found it to be a joke. The exercises are totally vague(Ex-author tell you to go in and play around with groups and GPO's)I mean go-in and play around with something that you've NEVER used!!!! This is one complaint I've had and the CD is AWFUL-If you can hear him performing the exercises. I went with Microsoft on this one, I looked at SYBEX(Almost as bad as this one) and found Microsoft's Text to make sense and the exercises are good. My recommendation from a guy who bought this book-If you want to use it to pass the exam-Forget it-If you want to use it for some household feature(like standing on it) then go for it
Great book, all you need to pass! May 10, 2002 I passed 217 with plenty of room to spare using mainly this book, in addition to a test network. This book, as the rest of this series, explains all the topics clearly and with plenty depth. And it isn't so dry that it will put you to sleep (same with the rest of this series). I used this series through 8 of my 15 MCP certifications, and was very pleased with them all. (And I've never failed a certification exam). This is truly a great series...
