5 out of 5 stars Awesome Reference   July 10, 2003

I am a Network Engineer with about 6 years experience in networking and systems. This book is really cool. I have worked on so many networks that needed to be repaired and I wish I had this book years ago when I started learning. This book will not fail you. You will learn how to use the Sniffer, Troubleshoot with it, analyze with it, and best yet, you learn how to find problems in networks and this book tells you how to fix or redesign based on what the problem is. This is one of the better troubleshooting books I have seen. I also like the fact that the authors all work for fortune 500 companies, are certified as Sniffer Experts and CCIE level, how can you go wrong with this book? Hope this helps you as this book has helped me.

4 out of 5 stars Great book to carry with your Sniffer   May 20, 2003

I'll keep it short. Thought that as an Sniffer University Instructor this book would not add much for me, but reading the book i found out that is really a good book to have in your neigborhood while working with the Sniffer. It just covers all aspects of the software and many things more that will help you on the way using the Sniffer to troubleshoot or monitor your network.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent reference, great info on filters, triggers, alarms   April 30, 2003

This is an excellent book. The chapters on analyzing network issues and reporting are very good. I also liked the chapters on triggers and alarms. The coverage of troubleshooting is solid--three separate chapters, each full of good info and tips.

5 out of 5 stars Concise, detailed book with good examples   April 29, 2003
I have been using this book on the job for a couple of months now, and it has greatly helped me take advantage of the most powerful Sniffer features. The authors do a great job of explaining how everything works and then showing you with real examples from a production network. This makes it much easier to apply the knowledge to your own network. The guy from Canada who slammed the book and complained that the authors aren't Sniffer certified must not have read the the page where it says the Technial Editor and lead authors are both SCE/SCPs.
