Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
The state of the art of multicarrier modulation for the transmission of high-speed data With DSL technology poised to provide the fastest means of Internet access for years to come, there is a growing need for practical information on running xDSL services over existing telephone lines. Communications expert John Bingham draws on three decades of intimate involvement with data transmission research to provide a complete guide to the state of the art and future direction of multicarrier modulation (MCM)-one of the key methods for high-speed data transmission today. Geared to designers and system planners working with DSL modems, Internet access, and telephony, ADSL, VDSL, and Multicarrier Modulation presents everything engineers and programmers need to design MCM modems, understand current implementations, and formulate strategies for future improvements and research. Detailed, thoroughly logical coverage includes:
* Precise descriptions of problems associated with the transmission of high-speed data and how to solve them
* Clear explanations of the DSL medium and how to calculate its capacity
* Discussions of the theory as well as advantages and disadvantages of MCM
* A link between physical and higher layers for Internet access
* Essential yet hard-to-find information on spectral management
* Over 100 tables and graphs of data rates illustrating the theory, plus MATLAB program listings

5 out of 5 stars Wish we had this last year   May 8, 2001

Reading this book would have saved us some assumptions that were incorrect in designing DSL chip. Now I know how to do better analysis of the problem.

5 out of 5 stars Theory & Pracetice Combined   January 20, 2001

We use this book constantly to refer to for fundamental explanations while we also used the practical section. Great book and a must have for anyone doing digital comm, OFDM and other types of multicarrier design.

5 out of 5 stars This one clarified multicarrier   December 8, 2000

Multicarrier is hot right now and this book helped clarify many points not generally covered elsewhere. I find this book also a useful reference to return to for practical applications. We extend the concepts to our wireless design.

5 out of 5 stars In depth material other books don't cover   August 15, 2000

I found this book useful in understanding some of the fundamental issues as well as the implementation sections. Our team has been doing medem design for years and this gave a new perspective compared to other dsl books that are very similar in content.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent source for putting Multicarrier Mod in perspective   June 9, 2000

We found the book very useful as our team had been looking for some good references to understand MCM and more on DSL in general. Different perspective, excellent practical contributions too.
