Decent resource June 14, 2008 Nutshell review - A decent resource for practicing the testing process of the CISSP exam. If you need practice Q&A then this will do the job.

The more questions you practice the better. This has good description. Was not as pleased as I could be.
Worst E-Book Policy Yet December 27, 2003 12 out of 18 found this review helpful
I bought this book in its paperback format and, after leaving the paperback version on a plane over Christmas by accident just as I started reading it, then bought the electronic version so I could finish it. I've bought electronic versions before from Syngress and others and they work great. Don't be fooled by this bait-and-switch here, however. The download is not a PDF in the conventional sense (even though it says you use Adobe Acrobat Reader to view it--which is MISLEADING), it is an "E-Book" which forces you to upgrade your Acrobat Reader to 6.0.1 (which was the first thing I didn't like) where they are using Adobe's new "Digital Rights Management" technology. Basically, this forces you to only view it on the same system you download it on (unless you want to tell Microsoft's .NET every book you have downloaded, or register with Adobe's store which is perpetually "down for maintenance", which may not even work--see below) and restricts the ability to print or copy text. For a book where you are continually going back and forth between Questions and Answers which are hundreds of pages apart, this is unbelievably inconvenient. After I found this out, I attempted to look for information on Amazon's site, but to no avail. It only says you cannot return it, which the website did not mention before I bought it. Also, there's no Phone Number for Amazon anywhere--time to buy on Barnes and Noble's online site. On Wiley's site, if you dig around long enough, it actually does say that printing and copying is restricted, that you can only view it on the computer you download it on, and that you may not sell or lend it to anyone else. This is atrocious as I paid the same amount as the physical version, I didn't get the CD that comes with the paperback book, and the cost to produce the digital version is less! They are so hell-bent on making sure that not one single version gets copied that they have removed all the capabilities which make the electronic version useful. By the way, if you're not online when you open it, find something else to do as you need an internet connection to verify that you're allowed to view it. As for the content of the book, it's over a year old to date and the questions in the book are not terribly relevant anymore. This should have been updated by now. Overall, I didn't appreciate Wiley's approach to the electronic version and it has enraged me to the point of never buying another book from them again--electronic or otherwise.
Lots of paper March 17, 2003 6 out of 8 found this review helpful
It's good to get study questions from an authority. Since this review is pre-CISSP test I can't speak to the value of those questions. I'm certain they'll be right on target though.I liked the book very much. I liked that newer information is included like wireless networking HIPAA and other topics. I think the book is about 100 pages too thick. One can literally rip out the first 99 pages and not loose any content. The first 99 pages are all the questions. The rest of the book are the questions repeated again along with the answers. I couldn't help but think someone went out of their way to create a bigger book knowing that all the information could've been covered in fewer pages. Since the original CISSP Study Guide is also formatted this way I guess it's okay, but it still wastes a lot of paper IMHO and more than likely adds to the cost of the book. Call it a pet peave I guess. Other than that, a great book and highly recommended.
Great followup to the Gold Edtion. November 14, 2002 10 out of 10 found this review helpful
Russell Dean Vines and Ronald Krutz have yet another first rate manual; for the CISSP exam. The authors have gone the extra mile to produced a book that an additional studsy guide companion to their already successful CISSP Study Guide. This is not an addendum to the first book but rather a cut to bone manual that focuses on the exam objectives. While it may appear that the small manual is nothing more than questions and answers, after reading the text I found it provided more than just bullet points. There is over 200 questions with detailed explanations to work with as well as a cd-rom, using the highly successful, Boson testing engine with an additional set of practice questions. Used as a final preparation tool or as a supplement to The CISSP Prep Guide, either way you have a great study tool.
