Product Description
How will my files transfer? How do I set up a print server? What kinds of adjustments will my users need to make? Can I compress files in NT? What is a domain? Can I migrate more than one NetWare server at a time? If you're a NetWare network administrator who's considering migrating to Windows NT Server 4, you probably have hundreds of questions like these. In this step-by-step guide, bestselling author Sue Plumley answers all of your most pressing questions. Learn what to do, why you're doing it, and what order to do it in. Build skills and confidence for the inevitable customization work to come. Migrating from Novell NetWare to Windows NT Server 4 gives you technical coverage of Server set-up and administration. You'll get detailed checklists and network diagrams to prepare your system and your users for the new environment. Inside you'll find: Troubleshooting sidebars in every chapter Handy tables comparing NetWare terms with the corresponding NT nomenclature Postmigration advice on how to use NT Server most efficiently Unbiased assessments of what NT adds to (and subtracts from) network functionality This practical, well-organized guide gives you proven, hands-on advice on how to accomplish the smoothest and most trouble-free migration possible.

5 out of 5 stars I wanted to move to NT and this book helps!   February 19, 2000

Like the Macintosh/PC debate, the NetWare NT debate will always cause heated opinions. I wanted to move to NT and I'm glad I did. NT is a much better NOS in my opinion and this book helped me!

1 out of 5 stars You must be kidding!   January 5, 2000
I want the book titled migrating from NT to Novell Netware 5!

I cannot see anyone in their right mind going the other direction!

1 out of 5 stars This Whole Book is Absurd   December 23, 1999

Migrate from NetWare to Windows NT? Who in their right mind would even consider such a move, now that we have had the best part of three years to compare NetWare 4.11/4.2/5.0 with NT Server 4.0.

This book presents a formula for disaster, and in my opinion, it would now constitue actionable professional negligence on the part of any network engineer who even attempted such a migration.

Of course, the integration of NT Server 4.0 into the NetWare NDS network with NDS for NT is another matter altogether. If one needs or desires NT Servers in a network, one first constructs the firm foundation of the network (NetWare NDS), and then the NT boxes are brought in with NDS for NT.

Integration is the key to success on this issue. Migration is the way to disaster. Hopefully, this book will not be reprinted.
