Product Description This practical guide covers the many uses of SharePoint 2003 as well as the differences between SharePoint Portal Server (SPS) and Windows(r) SharePoint Services (WSS). In addition, the book will help you decide if you need only WSS or if you should also implement SPS. While the main focus is on planning, installation, configuration, and administration, you'll also learn how to customize SharePoint by creating templates, building your own Site Definition, and using FrontPage(r) to enhance the look and feel of SharePoint sites. In addition, you will learn the business-critical methods of backing up and restoring your system. Microsoft MVP and author Goran Husman shares numerous tips for smart add-ons and utilities that will enhance the functionality of SharePoint by providing better navigation, the ability to integrate with other systems, and effective workflow solutions. His practical and easy-to-follow instructions will help you get your SharePoint environment up and running in no time. He even shows you how to make your eventual upgrade to SharePoint 2007 seamless. What you will learn from this book - How to install Windows SharePoint Services (WSS) and SharePoint Portal Server (SPS)
- Tips on what to focus on when customizing SharePoint
- How to productively use SharePoint with Microsoft Office and Microsoft Outlook(r)
- Various ways to handle backup and restore procedures

NOT 2007 version July 10, 2008 I as careless and guessed it would be the latest MOSS 2007, alas it was an ols 2003 based book.
Buy instead the later WSS 3.0 / MOSS 2007 version of this book which is now out February 27, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Most readers should beware. This is a very good book but it is for two back products (WSS 2.0 and SPS 2003).
Buy instead the equally good, but newer, book (published in 2007) from the same author with an almost identical title and cover which is however on WSS 3.0 and MOSS 2007 administration.
Very good book to start administration of MOSS 2007 & WSS 3.0 January 16, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is a very good book to start with administration of WSS 3.0 and MOSS 2007. Althought something unclear most parts are clear and step by step lead. Not for developers exactly but developers still get some juice from it. Together with "Beginning SharePoint 2007" by MVPs Amanda Murphy and Shane Perran (do u know they're couple?) these are two great books on the subject currently in market. Worth of money spent!!!
Great Book, well written better than MS Press. May 3, 2007 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I recommend this book to anyone who is looking to deploy SharePoint and needs to start from scratch and understand architecture of it. The author did a great job explaining and giving all the tools needed to design and deploy SharePoint successfully. Very easy read and I love the fact that author uses humor in his book makes it easier to read. This is the only book you really need to design, architect and deploy SharePoint. I have done it with great success. Two thumps up!!!

SharePoint 2003 ONLY! February 13, 2007 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Well written with many useful illustrations. However, it is for SharePoint 2003, NOT 2007! Although there is a short chapter in the back about new 2007 features, the author is currently working on a 2007 version of this book, which apparently hasn't been published quite yet.
