3 out of 5 stars Passing the test   June 18, 2006
The information in this book will not allow you to pass the exam. You need quite a bit more information. This book is not bad but if you want to study one book and attempt to pass security+ I'd get the examcram2 book. Also I'd highly reccomend taking pretests.

1 out of 5 stars Insufficient to prepare for Security+   October 28, 2005

I have been working with computers professionally for over 20 years. Recently a client asked me to take the Security+ exam. I bought a copy of Mike Meyers' Certification Passport Security+ book and took the tests at the end of all 14 chapters to see what I needed to study. I missed 7 out of the 140 questions, or scored 95%. I felt I was ready to take the Security+ without any further study.

I just returned from taking the test. I scored 764, with a 764 being the minimum score to pass. I am totally humiliated. I am absolutely ashamed to show my client the 746 score after believing I would have a score I could be proud of.

FYI, when another client asked me to take the Net+, I scored 900. That was a year ago and I used ExamCram Net+ to guage my readiness to take the Net+. The ExamCram chapter tests were a much better reflection of the Net+ than the way Mike Meyers' Certification Passport Security+ book reflects the Security+.

4 out of 5 stars Great starter book, but rely on this and you will be screwed   June 27, 2005

This is a great book for people who need a good overview of the exam. It's also a good book for people who are reviewing for the exam, it is not, however, a good book for the bulk of important material in the exam. The book is very high level and doesn't go into much detail. It's still better than the Exam Cram, which is a total piece of crap. I'd get this and then read a bigger book.

3 out of 5 stars Great Book Excelent Study Aid   September 26, 2004

I used this book as a last week before testing study guide. It's great review of all the major key points. While it didn't go into deep detail on many of the subjects, it does outline all of them. If you can read each of the chapters within the expert time given at the begining of each of them then you're ready for the test. I got 890/900, Now it's time for the CISSP and I will definitly buy the Passport book for that.

I do agree with other reviewers though, this book is a review book and shouldn't be used alone.

2 out of 5 stars Not so much a "Ticket to Exam Success"   September 13, 2004

This book should not be used as your only form of study for the Security+ certification. Although helpful, it would best serve as a starter dish or desert for a more complete book like Gregory White's "All-in-one Security+ Certification". Defiantly not the main course.
